Big Buddha, Hong Kong (Tian Tan Buddha)



Big Buddha of Hong Kong is an important tourist destination of the country. It is a large bronze statue of Buddha Shakyamuni locally known as Tian Tan Buddha. The statue is located in Ngong Ping at the Lantau Island. The statue is situated near Po Lin Monastery and symbolises the harmonious relationship between man and nature, people and faith. Po Lin Monastery is a major centre of Buddhism in Hong Kong.

The building of the statue is started in 1990 and finished in 1993 with approximately expenditure of HK$60 million.
