Hokkaido

Hokkaido (北海道, Hokkaidō) is one of the best travel destination in Japan. It is second largest island of Japan. Hokkaido is also northernmost and least developed of Japan's four main islands. Hokkaido was formerly known as Ezo, Yezo, Yeso, or Yesso.

Sapporo is capital of Hokkaido. It is also largest city of the island.

Hokkaido is known for its natural beauty and good part of the island is not spoiled by human. There are many national parks in Hokkaido. Among these national parks, Shiretoko National Park is designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

In winter, there is lots of snow fall in Hokkaido with below zero temperatures and frozen seas. The winter is ideal for skiers and snowboarders. Many hikers, cyclists and campers comes to enjoy the natural beauty of the island from June to September.
